The recreational oxygen in Oxygen Plus products is sourced from 99.5% Aviator Breathing Oxygen (ABO). Airline pilots have long used ABO because of its purity and low moisture content. ABO is the only ingredient packaged into Oxygen Plus canisters. Similar to a medical-grade oxygen, ABO is created by an air separation process which separates the gases and elements found in ambient, or every day, air. The most abundant gases in ambient air are nitrogen, oxygen and argon. The air separation process successfully isolates the majority of the oxygen (minimum of 99.5%), however small, acceptable amounts of other gases and elements (such nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and methane) may still remain. The standards established (MIL-PRF-27210J) for the trace gases and elements in ABO were created by the U.S. government in 1977. They are accepted and are considered safe for human respiration. The source oxygen is tested with laboratory equipment to ensure the standards are met, the oxygen is safe to breathe, and is approved for consumer use. Since Oxygen Plus products are trans-filled directly from the ABO source oxygen into the canisters in a clean room at a FDA-registered facility, the finished product also meets the standards of the ABO source gas.
